I’m Steve Unwin — a CAA Part 102 certified drone operator in New Zealand and experienced aerial cinematographer based in Wellington. I provide professional drone filming, aerial cinematography, and drone videography services across New Zealand and internationally, working with film, television, and commercial production companies.
Using industry-leading drone technology, including the DJI Inspire 3 full-frame 8K cinema drone, I deliver cinematic aerial footage tailored to the creative and technical demands of high-end productions. From feature films and TV series to commercials and branded content, I specialise in capturing dynamic, story-driven aerial imagery.
With over 16 years of experience as a Director of Photography in film and television, I bring a strong cinematic approach to every project. My expertise as both a drone pilot and aerial DOP allows me to seamlessly integrate drone work into professional production pipelines.
As a certified Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Part 102 drone operator, I am approved to operate in complex environments and controlled airspace. I regularly liaise with air traffic control and location authorities to ensure all drone filming is safe, compliant, and production-ready. Safety and professionalism underpin every job. I operate under a comprehensive safety management system, maintain full drone liability insurance, and follow strict operational procedures to meet the standards expected by international production companies filming in New Zealand.
